VP Dave Barcomb, Co-Owner Karen E. Smith, Co-Owner/President Jason Smith ~September 2022
Watervliet, NY – On Wednesday, October 12th, President of Troy Industrial Solutions (TIS) Jason Smith, announced the retirement of long-time friend and mentor, Vice President Dave Barcomb, at the company’s Annual Sales and Manager’s Meeting in Nashua, NH.
Dave joined the Troy family in January 2004 and served in a pivotal role at that time as Director of Sales and quickly became the General Manager in October of 2004. Dave was not only a manager but became a mentor and a friend to both Jason and his mother, Karen E. Smith, who stepped into the role of president of the company after her husband George’s sudden death in 2003.
Dave’s years of experience in the industry, product knowledge, management style and professional demeanor, gave both Jason and Karen not only the confidence they needed to continue their family-owned and operated business, but the ability and encouragement to improve and grow their business into the multi-faceted, service-oriented company that it is today.
Dave’s strategic plan to help TIS’s growth efforts included becoming a shareholder and member in 2005 of the IDC-USA, a cooperative of independent distributors from around the country. Dave was elected to the IDC USA Board of Directors in 2009, serving until 2014. He later sat on the Board of Directors for Affiliated Distributors (AD), one of the nation’s largest independent distributor cooperatives from 2015 until 2017.
In addition to being responsible for TIS’s overall company operations, Dave was instrumental in stabilizing the business and managing profitability, marketing, and brand strategy. Named Vice President in 2012, he helped to expand the 160-year-old privately held business from one location in NY, to four additional locations in ME, NH, and CT through acquisitions. Under Dave’s guidance, the company increased revenue from $13M to $35M and he was instrumental in the evolution of Troy Belting and Supply Co. to Troy Industrial Solutions, now recognized as the premier electro-mechanical support company in the greater Northeast region.
Upon his retirement, Dave will continue as a Senior Business Advisor to TIS and will pursue his interest as CEO for Hire, an independent business advisory, providing senior leadership and business development to companies experiencing a disturbance or leadership gap within their business. When not working, Dave is looking forward to many more days spent on the golf course and enjoying quality time with his wife Sharon, their three children, and six grandchildren with another one on the way.
