NYS Department of Labor awards a flag of recognition.
Watervliet, NY — Troy Belting & Supply Co. received a perfect zero incidents score on their annual SHARP inspection from the NYS DOL last week. The SHARP (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) inspection is a voluntary safety inspection and awareness program run by OSHA. “To complete this safety audit with a perfect score is unheard of,” said David Barcomb, Troy Belting’s General Manager.
Today the New York State Department of Labor presented Troy Belting with a newly created SHARP flag in recognition of the Company’s success. Troy Belting is the first company asked to receive the flag in honor of their accomplishment. Geoffrey Holodook from the NYS Department of Labor made the presentation today at a flag raising ceremony, followed by a cake cutting and luncheon for all Troy Belting employees. According to Mr. Holodook, “Troy Belting is a textbook SHARP participant. Their safety efforts are exemplary.” Troy Belting has been in the SHARP program for 12 years.
“Our outstanding SHARP inspection is a testament to the efforts of our Safety and Training coordinator, Bruce Flagler,” Said Jason Smith, Vice President. “Bruce has been with the company for over 35 years. He has embraced this job in spite of being diagnosed with ALS almost a year ago and has done a great job.” Bruce has gone public about his ALS and supports the St. Peter’s ALS Regional Center in various fund-raising events.
Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program
The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) recognizes smaller employers who exceed the OSHA standards and implement exemplary safety and health management systems. Employers who commit to correcting all the hazards identified by consultants in the course of a full service safety and health survey and establishing an effective safety and health program, and who meet certain other requirements, are recognized under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program. There are currently approximately 75 participating companies in New York State.
